Deralakatte: There is a lack of multiplexes in rural areas. If multiplexes are opened in these regions it will help Kannada film industry to grow further said Sandalwood actor-director Rakshit Shetty.

He was speaking in a national level seminar and Beacon-2K17 media festival held at Nitte college of communication at Paneer campus at Deralakatte here on Tuesday.

People of Puttur could not watch Kirik Party as it was screened there. Kannada films don’t get screened other states, he said.

Rakshit Shetty spoke about his experiences after donning director’s cap. He put forth several questions before students like, why the music directors of Kannada movies are from outside state? How it is possible to write soulful lyrics in the midst of all no-meaning lyrics? How Tulu film can be made? Problems faced by film industry due to demonetisation?

The film distribution section in Karnataka is still operating in 70-80’s style. This has made it difficult to screen films in rural areas. When distribution of films adopts modern ways, the film industry in Karnataka will develop. In Every state the movies of native heroes gets success. Hence film of other languages fails to leave a mark. But Ulidavaru Kandante was screened in Chennai successfully. In Karnataka films from every language gets enough screens.

I started doing short films with confidence. Watching movies, reading, watching interviews inspired me to do successful movies. I believed that to become a good actor you needs to be a good director first. Hence I Started my film carrier with Thuglak. Directing short films and conceptualizing it in a bigger way would help you in making good movies he said.

There is lack of technicians in the field of music in the state. There are lot musicians from Kerala and Chennai in our state. This has created some flaws in our music. We need to introduce musicians from our state. In Karnataka we don’t have many multiplexes compared to other states.

Shetty said that when multiplexes are opened in every corner of the state then surely Kannada film industry will flourish. The shooting of Kirik Party was almost completed when demonetisation was announced but we were needed to pay daily wage workers in cash, he said.

As Tulu is my mother tongue I have a dream to do a Tulu film. Apocalypto a Mayan language film became a phenomena world over. It showed that a movie has no language barriers if we make good watchable movies whole world will watch it. I have a plan to make a big budget Tulu movie which can appeal to every audience in the world. I want the people of this world to watch Tulu movies.

A girl student who introduced herself through Shetty’s brother who is also a student of the college said that she is the biggest admirer of the actor. She also said that she wanted to meet Rakshit Shetty since many years and requested him to give a hug. On seeing Rakshit Shetty hugging the girl another girl student came to the stage and hugged the actor.

Another student presented a painting of Rakshit Shetty which was painted by him.
